OCA’s Activities

DIRECT ACTIVITIES
At OCA the direct activities are thought to offer support to cancer patients, survivors and their families. All of our projects and services are offered free of charge to all the community, regardless of their nationality or religion. Our main concern is to be able to reach with our projects to as many people as possible.

MMU

- Palliative Care - “Bridging the gap”
- Patient Support and help line through toll free number

Empowerment:
- Self-Breast Examination (SBE) training and awareness for women.
- Self-Breast Screening training program in schools for 10th to 12th grade students.
- Survivorship Advocacy training.

- Pink Ribbon initiative
- Cancer talks
- One-to-one approach in the Malls, Schools and Universities
- Booklets and other communication material

INDIRECT ACTIVITIES
At OCA we consider indirect activities all the undertakings that are not directly targeted to cancer patients and survivors, but that will have a positive impact on their lives and on Cancer Prevention.

Advocacy:
- Introduce cancer as a strategic disease in Oman
- On-going work with the National Committee for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD)
- Influencing policy changes in Cancer Management in Oman

Education and Training:

Walkathon 2015

- Interaction and networking with similar institution for knowledge sharing and transfer
- Conducting specialised training courses and international meetings and conferences
- Training courses to health care providers and allied health professionals, and advocates:
- Spirituality Course
- Leadership Course
- Workshop on volunteering
- The Journalist Program
- Palliative Care course (Basic, Advance, Leadership and Train the Trainer)
- Monthly Public Meetings
- Nashmi Program Course together with Oman Society for Human Resources Management (OSHRM) to broaden corporate volunteering in Oman

Dedicated Research:
In 2017, OCA reinforced its commitment to Dedicated Research through the creation of a “Scientific & Research Commission” that reviews, addresses and organises all the information and ensures it commits to the vision, mission and objectives of the Association.
